RAPID Sched: Scheduling for Real-Time CORBA Systems

RAPID Sched global scheduling service for CORBA and Real-Time CORBA systems implements a Deadline Monotonic Scheduler and Distributed Affected Set Priority Ceiling Protocol (DASPCP) to prevent unbounded priority inversion from resource contention.

“RAPID Sched works in conjunction with RAPID RMA to provide the scheduling interface mechanism for CORBA Object Request Brokers (ORBs) and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOSs). This allows the designer to know what priorities to use to guarantee system schedulability in fixed-priority scheduled CORBA systems.”

The developer can use RAPID Sched with the RAPID RMA host-based prototyping tool to analyze and validate the schedulability of a CORBA architecture. This allows the determination of priorities necessary to guarantee system schedulability. RAPID RMA creates a list of priorities off-line to be used by RAPID Sched to ensure global system schedulability. RAPID Sched provides the scheduling interface mechanism for ORBs and RTOSs that developers have been asking for in a new real-time middleware product for fixed priority scheduled CORBA systems.

In the CORBA architecture, RAPID Sched sits between the client and server to schedule requests on the server.

RAPID Sched Benefits

  • Empowers CORBA developers by providing a real-time compliant scheduling service
  • Ensures the global scheduling and timing requirements necessary for successful implementation of CORBA in a real-time environment
  • Develops systems with real-time components for critical real-time applications such as telecommunications, avionics, automotive, satellite systems and others
  • Enforces schedules across a distributed network
  • Dramatically reduces time to market and the costs associated with re-work

RAPID Sched Features
